I am in the process of renewing by buildings insurance on a rental property. Most insurance companies ask the status of the person signing the tenancy agreement i.e. employed, student, DSS etc .

My tenant was initially employed, but I have reason to believe she may now be on DSS/Housing Benefit. (She is pregnant and has a partner who is not on the tenancy agreement and does not live at the property.) Given that her rent continues to be paid on time I do not consider my business whether she is employed or claiming benefits.

Does anyone have experience of the being asked (by an insurance company) questions about a tenant which arguably I cannot reasonably be expected to know the answer to?
