Dear RLA

I own a single flat in a block which I lease out. Periodically, the freeholder has written to me demanding a fee for consent to let the property. There is no such requirement for consent in the lease document and I have always written back stating that I do not need consent to lease the property. This seems to satisfy them for a year or so when they write to me again.

I have now received a different type of letter demanding a fee for a Notice of Registration of the tenancy. Is there any new legal requirement for this which I am unaware of or is it merely a different take on the previous letter.

Thanking you in anticipation.
