permitted occupier

I originally rented to a single tenant. Now he is married and his wife lives with him. The tenancy is due for renewal. The agent has written the contract by putting the original tenants name plus a 'permitted occupier'. What are the legal implications (if any) for this arrangements as opposed to just having two named tennants?
