My current tenants originate from Pakistan. They have rented the property (a first floor flat in a block of 6 flats) for approximately 2 years. It has recently (in the last week) come to my attention that they have a cockroach infestation. Unfortunately the upstairs flat also has noticed cockroaches in their kitchen and bathroom. It is likely that my Pakistani tenants introduced cockroaches to the flat (from food purchased at their specialist supermarket). Although they pay their rent on time their food hygiene is very poor. How should I proceed with this matter ? I do not think there is anything in the tenancy agreement regarding pest control. It is going to cost £400 to have my flat treated for cockroaches. However, it is likely that the flat is going to need professional cleaning. Also, I cannot risk re-infestation which is likely to occur unless they significantly alter their food storage arrangements. Any helpful advice ??
