Is there an option to renew the protection with Deposit Guard?

Hi everyone,
I just started using Deposit Guard a year ago for a property, and now we are to let the tenancy continue as a statutory periodic tenancy. I have two questions:

1) Should I protect the deposit for the next 12 months, regardless how long the tenant intends to stay in the property? I suppose 12 months is the only option, but thought I should ask in case I misunderstood anything.

2) Inside DepositGuard website, I didn't see the option to renew existing protection. Should I just make a new protection after the stated end date of the existing tenancy?

I'd appreciate it if anyone can share their knowledge.

Best, ET
