Judgment was delivered today, over the course of 1.5 hours.

Short summary is:

a) Selective licensing lawful, so licensing of properties where one family live can go ahead.

b) Additional [HMO] licensing arguably unlawful, so can be judicially reviewed. This applies to properties where there are two or more tenants who are not related or not living as a couple (e.g. friends sharing, student lets). The Council estimates that this affects around 40% of private rented property in the borough.

All is not lost over (a). Enfield landlords will consider next moves.
