My reference agency has asked that I obtain a witness signature for the guarantor signature from 'someone I can trust who can verify the identity of the guarantor'. This is for a guarantor who lives way out of the area and cannot sign in my presence. Is a witness a legal requirement and can anyone be the witness and do they have to prove they exist and they are who they say they are?
I appreciate it would be easier if the guarantor signed in my presence but that is not always possible
