best hardwearing carpets

Hi, Does anyone have recommendations as to the type of carpets in terms of hard wearing and still somewhat comfortable to walk on for bedrooms? I need to replace them in two bedrooms, and am thinking on either dark grey or dark brown (walls are magnolia), but not an expert on carpets (are there different types, materials, etc). Many thanks,
