Has anyone any experience of using debt collection agencies for recovering rent? I have a student tenant who owes £1,100 and I have written to 13 times without success. He is still resident - his tenancy finishes in July. It's not worth going through eviction proceedings. He doesn't have a guarantor. I basically have a choice between the small claims court and a debt collection agency. My fears regarding agencies are: they will be thuggish; they will damage my reputation as a landlord; they will be expensive. Any comments will be welcome.
