I have a tenant who has been admitted to rehab and subsequently has slipped into rent arrears. I do not want to start eviction proceedings unless absolutely necessary and was wondering whether the council would accept a claim for housing benefit when the tenant is essentially not living at the property?

The tenant has previously been on housing benefit before they changed it to UC.

Does anyone have any experience/thoughts? I am going to ring the council tomorrow and talk through the options.
