Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in finding out about historic council tax exemptions from their local county council for a specific property. We purchased a property last year as an investment with student tenants in situe and the property had been let for at least 4 years previously to students.  For the planning department, we need to find out 10 years worth of history and to look into annual council tax exemptions (expemption in place due to being occupied by students and therefore not paying council tax) in place (if any) for the past 10 years.

The person I spoke to today thinks that its again data protection to the previous owner to give out that information, even though we are now owners of the property.  She wasn't sure though and couldn't speak to colleagues as no-one available to ask.  She suggested emailing in but response time is 2-3 weeks!!!  We are not wanting any specific details about historic occupants or the previous owner.

Just wondering if anyone had any similar experience.  Many thanks in advance.
