First time not using letting agent

We have a great tenant of 2years. Been using letting agent for over 7/8 years. (Find tenant and collect rent only. We manage property)Want to move away from this format as expensive.

We can produce a new contract for them etc... new agreement due August and a small rent rise.  

Do we need to put the deposit into another scheme for tenant of does the estate agent continue to hold this for them. Are they any other downsides to move away from agent!!  Little nervous.
