After an unending wait for my regular roof repair contractor, out of frustration I went to the website called Rated People and found a roof repair contractor. The website claims that their tradespeople are carefully selected and checked. However, after the contractor claimed to have finished and got paid, the leak has not stopped and no difference has been noticed. I got in touch by phone and asked him to come and sort it out. He promised to do so but has not done so for over a week now. He is no longer taking my calls or responding to my text messages whereas he gave me 3 years warranty. I have now done some internet search about him and discovered the following:
1. He has another business name for roofing that has very poor rating on various sites. The victims have similar experiences as myself, disappearing after payment.
2. I went to the Rated People website in order to give my rating but he has been removed from the site, may be due to complaints
From the above, I wish to ask for a refund from the contractor or take necessay action to recover my money (£500). Has anyone had a similar experience and how best can I go about getting my money back. I have the following information about him which I hope are correct and reliable:
1. His name and residential address (not visited to confirm)
2. Business names and email address
3. Phone number with Whatsapp (he nolonger responds to calls and messages)
4. Car registration number.
I feel like I have been conned and the conman appears to have disappeared. Any idea about how to recover my money from this guy will be highly appreciated. Also, can I hold Rated People responsible for recommending such a contractor?
