Glass screen over bath burst

Dear landlords, have you heard of a glass screen (over bath) bursting from a hot weather spell? This is what the tenants told me during a routine visit when I questioned absent screen: "We came home, it was during the hot spell and the glass was shattered". I replaced the screen with a rail and curtain but can't help wondering if this is at all possible in a terraced house, in the NW. No damage to the bath tub, skylight, mirror, ceramic sink, rug. Thank you in advance.
