Shower screen spontaneously shattered

Just had some tenants move into a property we have not let out before.  They have been in the property for 3 weeks when we got a call saying the shower screen panel in the ensuit shower (not the actual curved doors) has spontaneously shattered.  Has anyone had this happen before and how did you deal with it.  My partner is reluctant to pay for the repairs as he feels this simply cannot have happened and they must have caused the damage themselves.  What is the best course of action here please?
