Sponsoring Tenant's mother

Hi.  My tenant is looking to bring his mother from Sri Lanka, on occassional visits to look after the children during school holidays.  She will be staying at the property rent free and there is a spare room in the house.  He has asked if I will write a letter for the Visa application.  Is this usual?
