Hi, I’m trying to research what my maternity entitlements would be if I were to get pregnant in my situation and wondered if anyone had some advice. I am currently on maternity leave from my full time teaching post and am 10 months in. I am due to return to work in late December 2 days per week. During my maternity I acquired a lump sum of money from house equity and bought 3 buy to let properties which I currently rent out. I am in the process of purchasing another 2 which will hopefully be rented out around Christmas.

My plan was to earn enough from the rentals to be able to give up the remaining 2 days of my teaching post next year to enable me to stay at home with my daughter. I am concerned, however, that if I was to get pregnant after giving up work that I will not be entitled to any maternity pay as I wouldn’t be considered as being self employed since I haven’t registered as a business. Does anyone have any experience with this that they could share? Thanks in advance
