Death of joint tenant

Hi, if a joint name tenant dies then do we need to get a new tenancy signed with surviving tenant? Husband of tenant has died recently. They signed 6 month short hold tenancy agreement 6 m ago which is coming to an end.
I am happy to continue with rolling tenancy with surviving tenant. I hope it is ok to continue with rolling contract with surviving tenant without signing a new contract.
