Who holds the deposit now I manage the tenancy account and the tenants are leaving

I recently had an agency manage the letting of my property, however I have now dispensed with their services on 18th March. I was waiting for the tenants to sign the new contract before the agent transferred the deposit to RLA. In the interim the tenants have given 1 months notice to vacate the house.
What now do I do about the deposit, I am due to take the keys back on 18th April, is it worth transferring the deposit only to take it our of the account again in 3 weeks or can the agent hold it until then. Does the agent have any right to give it back to the tenants during this period without my permission?
