re change of payment dates on an asured shortold tenancy

We have a tenant who commenced a tenancy on the 12/1/2009 .
He has recently changed his employment and will not be able to make his rental payments on the stated date . He has asked if next month he can pay from the 12th to the 22nd and then future payments to be made on the 23rd of every month .

Can we do this or will it effect the terms of the existing tenancy
( which is now periodic) should we need to issue a section 21 in future for any reason.

Should we issue a new tenancy at this point .
