Tenancy ends 20th January 2013. However, tenants moved out last week (over a month early). They complained about cost of heating 2 bedroom semi.

Final rent due 20th December. House cleaned, but keys not yet returned. We have been texted repeatedly "that cold weather on way so could we feed the gas meter" for central heating. Who is responsible for cost of heating? Them or us?

If we accept keys back before 20th January 2013 does that terminate contract so we become responsible?
