Property Rendered Uninhabitable

What are the requirements and limitations of all parties when a property has been rendered uninhabitable?
We have a property damaged by fire that will not be habitable for some time. The fire is beleived to have been caused by an electrical wiring fault. The tenants are currently staying in a nearby hotel at the expense of the landlord.
The questions being asked are:
Do the tenants still have to pay rent? - we have told the landlord no, not until the property is rehabitable.
How long must the landlord pay for temporary accommodation and what standard of accommodation must this be.
Are the tenants responsible for finding alternative accommodation and if so, within what sort of timescale?
We have never had to deal with a problem like this before and would welcome as much information as you can provide.
