Tenants unpaid water bills

Are the Bills registered in your tenants name or yours ? - you should not be liable - also did you close / open the account when they left .
My Son moved into a flat last year - the previous tenant failed to pay any utility bills / council tax / water rates - over £2000 in debt.
In the end we provided a copy of his AST with date to prove his occupation date ..... might be worth giving them a call
