We currently have a property which is let out to two professional young men, references were taken up and everything came back ok. This week I had a call from the landlord asking for the keys as the police wanted access to it. When they got there the tenants had changed the locks. Once the police got it they found that the tenants had been growing cannabis! The landlord is not happy and wants compensation. We as the agents did the routine visit and the last one we did in April there was no signs of anything unusual. The deposit is lodged with the DPS so eventually the landlord will get this back. This has never happened to us before. What are we liable for?
