Renewed tenancy agreement

One of our properties was let out to a married couple on the 29/01/1999 and a deposit was taken at the time. The female tenant has recently informed us that her husband has died and she wishes for a new tenancy agreement in her own name only. What do we need to do in terms of the original deposit paid in 1999 i.e. do we now need to register it under one of the protection schemes or is it still exempt as it was paid prior to the schemes set up.
