Payment to agents for repairs

I have letting agents who deliver a full management service.
I'm happy with what they do but they don't always give me an invoice for the repairs they say they've done.
I'm just checking - they should provide an invoice for each repair shouldn't they? Also, as they're charging VAT on the repairs it's actually incumbent on me to have the invoice so I can show VAT payments, isn't it?
I'm just wondering, how do other landlords manage this?
