Hi,
Our tenants gave a months notice to leave on 17th February 2014.On this date they handed the keys into the letting agent.
Unbeknown to us or the agents, the tenants actually left the prpoerty on 25th January 2014 and notified the council on 26th January 2014 of their new address.
We only discovered this when we got a council tax bill & I queried the dates. I thought we were entitled to the 100% discount on the first month of the property being empty. Apparently the tenants have qualified for this. I questioned the council stating I understood the date the tenants give back the keys is when they officially end the tenancy. The council disagree with me and are requesting payment. Can you clarify please? Thanks
