Shared costs for repairs on property boundary

The boundary roof between my tenanted house and my neighbours tenanted has had a leak and needed repair. The leak was on a part of the roof which straddles both homes. I have repaired this and am asking my neighbour for half the costs. He has not, so far, paid towards the costs. What is my legal position?
